Player of the Week award.
Johnson was the top scorer as Killeen captured the championship in the Bastrop ISD G.M. Blackman Tournament.
“Shianne is very deserving of this award,” said Killeen head coach Latisha Williams. “Since the Christmas break, she has been turning it on at the offensive end and she’s gaining a lot of confidence.”
Also nominated for the weekly honor were Belton’s Cammie Moore and Shoemaker’s Devyn Brewton and Javon Levi.
“I’m very excited to get this award,” Johnson said. “It felt good just to get nominated. It all makes me feel like I’m getting noticed.
“In the tournament, I was able to do a lot rebounding, scoring and I was trying to get some assists, too. I just stayed positive the whole weekend of the tournament and I was very motivated to do well.”
Last season, Johnson was the first player off the bench for Killeen’s District 12-6A championship squad. This season, she’s a starter and Killeen is currently 21-4 overall and 3-0 in district action.
“I would definitely say Shianne has gotten more confident this season,” Williams said. “She gains a lot of confidence when she’s putting the ball in the basket. And now she realizes she’s not just a scorer. She’s helping us with rebounding and getting some steals, too.
“She’s come a long way since last season.”
